Broadband connectivity is the most popular type of internet access. The broadband type of connectivity usually gives the quickest upload and download times on the internet. This is especially useful for anyone wanting to download any type of music or video from the internet as these large files can take a very long time to download with slower connectivity such as dial up access. Wireless connectivity used with laptop computers gives you the speed of broadband combined with the freedom to access the internet from just about any room in your home.
Choosing The Best Connectivity Deciding on the best connectivity type for you is often determined by what is available in your area. While most people in urban areas have access to high speed connections, you may need to connect to the internet using a slower dial up service if you live in a rural setting. Alternately, you can go with a satellite connection if high speed isn’t available but you will have to pay more for this service. If you are subscribed to a service but don’t know at what speed you are transferring information you can take an easy online connectivity test that will allow you to find out at what speed your connection is transferring data. Limited Connectivity Troubleshooting If you receive a message on your computer stating you have limited connectivity it could be related to a problem with your computer’s performance. Installing new software such as Microsoft’s service pack 2 you may experience this problem. This can often be fixed by downloading a patch for service pack 2 that will quickly fix your connectivity problem. Sometimes you will receive this message in error and find that your connectivity is fine. In this case you can simply disable the message and use your internet connection as normal. Sharing Internet Connectivity If you want to connect a network of local computers together to share information you can create shared internet connectivity. You will need to have two network connections in order to do this: one for the connection to the internet and another solely for the network. In order to set up this type of connectivity you must be logged in as an administrator. You can set up connectivity solutions such as a shared network either manually or use Microsoft’s network setup wizard to take you step by step through the process. You can set up a shared connectivity on either a dial up or broadband type of internet connection.
